A one of a kind concrete kitchen island…
What a fun project this was! Referred by an architect we had worked with before, this wonderful client had a vision of somehow incorporating seashells that she and her daughter had collected into her kitchen island.
After discussing a few options we decided to cast a recessed spiral directly into the island top. After the top was sealed and ready to go, mother and daughter came to visit me in the shop and painstakingly placed each shell by hand. I poured clear epoxy resin into the recess and viola!
Cast 2 inches thick, the color was a custom match to Benjamin Moore 2158-40 ‘golden mist’. The curve of the spiral inlay was carefully cut by hand to mimic the curved edge of the breakfast bar.
